Math Question

How do you answer a adding or subtracting question with two fractions that have two different denominators?

  1. you find the LCM (lowest common multiple) of the numbers, than you multiply both the numerator and denominator of both numbers by the number that gets them there, then you add the fractions together.
    ex. 4/10 +3/4. LMC=20, first step: 4x2/10x2 + 3x5/4x5=8/20 +15/20 second step: 8/20 + 15/20=23/20.
    and your answer is 23/20
