Tally Ho!

This is it folks! This concludes tallying the blog for this contract, but we've got lots to talk about for the next contract.

What do we do with the blog now?

What do you like about it?

What would you want to change about it?

Do you want it to be part of the next contract?

We'll talk about some of these things tomorrow and try to figure out where to go from here...

what is a percent

Percent

Percent
Percent means parts per 100

The symbol is %

Example: 25% means 25 per 100
(25% of this box is green)

So it tells you a ratio "out of 100"

Example: 10% means 10 out of every 100, so when 10% of people have ice cream that means that 10 out of every 100 people have ice cream. If there were 500 people then 50 would have ice cream.

what is a fraction

Fractions

A fraction is a part of a whole

Slice a pizza, and you will have fractions:

1/2 1/4 3/8
(One-Half)
(One-Quarter)
(Three-Eighths)

The top number tells how many slices you have
The bottom number tells how many slices the pizza was cut into.

don't flip out, square! math riddle

A square has a quarter in each corner. You are blindfolded and must get all quarters to be heads up or all to be tails up. You will be told when you have done this. You may flip however many you want, then ask if you are done (this constitutes a turn). The square is then rotated/spun an undisclosed number of times. You then get another turn and so on…
Is there a strategy that is guaranteed to work in a finite number of moves, and if so, what is that smallest number of moves you need to be 100% you’ll be able to have all heads up or all tails up?

is this seat taken (math Riddle)

100 people are waiting to board a plane. The first person’s ticket says Seat 1; the second person in line has a ticket that says Seat 2, and so on until the 100th person, whose ticket says Seat 100. The first person ignores the fact that his ticket says Seat 1, and randomly chooses one of the hundred seats (note: he might randomly choose to sit in Seat 1). From this point on, the next 98 people will always sit in their assigned seats if possible; if their seat is taken, they will randomly choose one of the remaining seats (after the first person, the second person takes a seat; after the second person, the third person takes a seat, and so on). What is the probability the 100th person sits in Seat 100?
